Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has spoken openly about the criticism her latest film Tere Ishk Mein has received since its release on November 28. The film, directed by Aanand L Rai and starring Dhanush in the lead role, has drawn strong reactions online, with many viewers calling the story and characters “toxic” due to its intense emotional themes.
In a recent interview, Sanon said she sees the ongoing discussions as a positive sign. She explained that words like “toxic” and “red flag” are widely used today, and it is healthy that the film has sparked debate. According to her, what matters is that audiences do not see the characters as completely right or wrong, which reflects real human behavior. She added that people often make mistakes, and those actions usually come from personal struggles rather than bad intentions.
Sanon also addressed the strong reactions to her character Mukti, particularly the controversial decision to give her child to her husband. She explained that Mukti is emotionally broken and carries deep guilt. As someone who is highly empathetic, the character feels responsible for the pain and loss experienced by others, which heavily affects her mental state.
The actress said the emotional weight carried by Mukti helps viewers understand her actions from a different perspective. Sanon believes that exploring such complex emotions makes the story more real and meaningful.
On the professional front, Bollywood fans will next see Kriti Sanon in Cocktail 2, where she will share the screen with Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna.
