In a significant announcement, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim declared that hardcore poverty has been effectively eradicated in Selangor, thanks to the implementation of targeted assistance programs. This news emerged following a development meeting focused on welfare in the region.
Speaking at the Petaling District Development Meeting in Shah Alam, Anwar detailed the progress of various initiatives designed to uplift impoverished communities. The prime minister noted the importance of continuous oversight, ensuring that families do not fall through the cracks and receive ongoing support for enhanced living standards.
Beyond financial backing, he emphasized the necessity of skills development and training. By opening avenues for education and economic opportunities, families will gain the tools required for self-sufficiency and improved long-term financial health.
Anwar attributed part of this progress to Selangor’s robust economy, which should be strategically leveraged to enhance living conditions for all, especially those in urban environments facing economic difficulties.
He proposed expanding the SejaTi Madani program in the Petaling district, which supports community initiatives that foster income generation and sustainable livelihoods.
During the meeting, several success stories were highlighted, including projects in Kampung Melayu Subang, stingless bee farming in Bayu Damansara, and furniture-making in Bukit Lanchong. These initiatives have helped community members earn between RM24,000 and RM100,000, showcasing the effectiveness of focused assistance.
The meeting also touched on pressing public concerns such as road repairs, flood prevention, waste management, and the oversight of places of worship. The government is pursuing both immediate and comprehensive strategies to resolve these issues.
Anwar concluded with a hopeful message, asserting that sustained cooperation will enable the government to tackle remaining challenges and ensure developmental gains reach every segment of the population.
