The Indian Railways is preparing to introduce the Amritsar-New Jalpaiguri Amrit Bharat Express, which will significantly enhance rail connectivity between Punjab and West Bengal. This new weekly service is expected to commence operations in the near future.
This train will travel from Amritsar in Punjab to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, making stops at key cities and towns throughout Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Officials from the railway anticipate that this route will be advantageous for numerous long-distance commuters.
Engineered by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, the Amrit Bharat Express aims to provide a modern and affordable travel option for regular users. The train is equipped with upgraded facilities yet remains economically priced compared to luxury alternatives.
According to the timetable, train number 14664 will leave Amritsar every Thursday at 12:45 PM, arriving in New Jalpaiguri by Saturday at 4:15 AM. Conversely, the return train, number 14663, will depart from New Jalpaiguri every Saturday at 8:00 AM, arriving back in Amritsar on Monday at 2:20 AM.
During its journey, the train will make stops at 35 stations, including key locations such as Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Raxaul, Sitamarhi, Forbesganj, Bagdogra, and Siliguri.
This new service is expected to be particularly beneficial for travelers from Bihar and the eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh, including smaller towns where direct long-distance train services are scarce.
Railway officials explained that the Amrit Bharat Express is part of a broader initiative by Indian Railways to extend modern and budget-friendly train services nationwide. The service is aimed mainly at lower and middle-income passengers prioritizing comfort on lengthy trips.
Travel analysts predict that this route will foster tourism and economic development between northern and eastern parts of India, easing travel issues for families, students, and workers.
