India and the entire Northeast region are mourning today as one of its brightest musical legends, Zubeen Garg, has tragically passed away in Singapore at the age of 52.
The Tragic Incident
Zubeen Garg had travelled to Singapore to take part in the North East India Festival, where he was scheduled to perform on September 20. A day before his performance, he went for a scuba diving activity.

During the dive, Zubeen suddenly experienced difficulty in breathing. He lost consciousness under the water. Singapore police and local rescuers acted quickly, bringing him out and rushing him to a nearby hospital. Doctors admitted him to intensive care, but despite their best efforts, he could not be revived.
His sudden death has left fans shocked and devastated, both in India and abroad.
A Voice That Defined Assam
For millions, Zubeen Garg was not just a singer, but a cultural identity. Born in 1972, he became a household name in Assam and across India. His soulful voice reached every corner of the country when he sang “Ya Ali” for the Bollywood film Gangster in 2006.
He went on to sing memorable songs like “Dil Tu Hi Bataa” (Krrish 3) and “Jaane Kya Chahe Man” (Pyaar Ke Side Effects). But beyond Bollywood, his heart remained rooted in Assamese music. He recorded thousands of songs in Assamese, Bengali, Nepali, and other regional languages, building a fan base that spanned generations.
