Ranna Gill, one of India’s most celebrated contemporary designers, is celebrating 25 years of redefining luxury fashion for the modern woman. Known for her seamless blend of Indian craftsmanship and global sensibilities, Gill continues to create collections that reflect elegance, sustainability, and timeless style.
Recently, she unveiled two of her most remarkable collections: The Treasury of Trousseau at DLF Emporio and Tales from the Saddle. The former introduced a range of evening wear and cocktail gowns, making a bold statement in India’s luxury ready-to-wear market. “It was our first step to showcase evening wear in a way that brides and modern women could incorporate into their everyday lives,” Gill explained. Tales from the Saddle, on the other hand, drew inspiration from the grace and elegance of horses and explored denim in innovative ways.

Growing up surrounded by fashion, Ranna’s early exposure in her mother’s factory shaped her understanding of fabrics, patterns, and design. “I grew up in this business; it was my playground,” she recalled. Her signature style is heavily inspired by nature, with bold prints, florals, and organic motifs forming the core of her collections. Gill’s mood boards are often filled with images from her travels, flowers, and natural landscapes, reflecting her deep-rooted connection to the environment.
Sustainability is an integral part of her design philosophy. “Fashion was always sustainable in my vision. A Ranna Gill outfit is something you can wear today and still wear a decade from now. Our fabrics, like linen and denim, are breathable, organic, and timeless,” she emphasized. Her focus remains on creating classic pieces rather than chasing fast-fashion trends, ensuring longevity and versatility in every design.
Over the years, Gill has dressed numerous Bollywood icons, including Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Karisma Kapoor, and her muse, Madhuri Dixit. “Working with Madhuri Dixit was a dream come true. She trusts the creative process and allows the designs to shine,” she shared, highlighting the harmonious collaboration that has become a hallmark of her brand.
Reflecting on her journey, Ranna cites her debut at Lakme India Fashion Week as a turning point. Fresh out of New York Fashion School and an internship with Ralph Lauren, she brought ready-to-wear fashion to India, paving the way for a market that now embraces Western-inspired luxury alongside traditional attire.
For young designers, Ranna advises, “Find your signature, define your niche, and stay consistent. Passion and perseverance are key to creating a lasting impact.” Her career stands as a testament to the power of vision, innovation, and dedication to craft.
As Ranna Gill celebrates this milestone, her work continues to influence India’s fashion landscape, marrying timeless elegance with contemporary practicality—a true reflection of modern Indian luxury.
