dnata, a global leader in air and travel services, has partnered with Azerbaijan’s Silk Way Group to establish a major ground handling and cargo hub at Alat International Airport, located in the Alat Free Economic Zone in Baku. This joint venture, scheduled to launch with the airport’s new terminal in April 2027, is poised to redefine Azerbaijan’s logistics and aviation sectors.
The project aims to combine dnata’s international experience with Silk Way Group’s strong local presence, creating an integrated aviation service platform. Initially focusing on cargo and ground handling, the venture will later expand into catering, freight forwarding, de-icing, and a full range of airline support services.

Alat International Airport is designed to handle over 500,000 tonnes of cargo annually, with an expected growth of 5% per year over the next decade. The airport will feature 18 aircraft stands, a 4,000-meter runway and taxiway, and a modern air traffic control centre, positioning it as a critical regional hub for both passenger and freight operations.
The broader Alat Free Economic Zone will complement this initiative with direct access to the Baku International Sea Trade Port, extensive railways, and motorway networks, further boosting the country’s transport and distribution capabilities. The venture is projected to create more than 1,000 local jobs, with substantial investment in skill development and training to support long-term growth.
With this collaboration, Azerbaijan is set to strengthen its role as a regional aviation and logistics hub, combining advanced infrastructure with comprehensive service solutions for airlines and cargo operators.
