PureHealth, the largest healthcare group in the Middle East, has received full accreditation from Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs for its key entities, SEHA and Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. This recognition highlights the group’s strong clinical research standards and ethical practices.
The research operations of SEHA and SSMC are managed under the Abu Dhabi Health Research Centre, which serves as PureHealth’s central research hub. The centre oversees research activities across 16 hospitals, primary healthcare clinics, and advanced laboratories in Abu Dhabi. Currently, it supports more than 200 active studies, including early-stage trials, advanced clinical trials, and translational research.
AAHRPP accreditation is considered the global gold standard for protecting human participants in research. It involves a strict and voluntary peer-review process that goes beyond basic regulatory requirements. SEHA and SSMC have been granted this accreditation for a period of three years, reflecting PureHealth’s strong governance system and commitment to maintaining high-quality and ethical research practices.
Speaking on the achievement, Shaista Asif said the group has developed a globally competitive research platform that meets international standards. She added that this recognition strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading centre for clinical research and life sciences innovation.
AAHRPP President and CEO Elyse I. Summers also congratulated PureHealth, noting that the organisation has shown a strong commitment to protecting research participants and maintaining high ethical standards.
The accreditation plays an important role in attracting global clinical trial sponsors, as it assures them of strong ethical oversight and operational quality. With this milestone, PureHealth enhances its position as a trusted partner for complex clinical trials and contributes to Abu Dhabi’s growth as a global hub for advanced healthcare research.
