Brock Lesnar appeared to retire from professional wrestling at WrestleMania 42 after his defeat to Oba Femi. Following the match, Lesnar left his MMA gloves and boots in the ring, hugged Paul Heyman, and waved to fans as the crowd chanted his name, creating a strong retirement-like moment.
Despite this, reports suggest that his retirement is not confirmed. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE does not fully believe Lesnar has officially retired. Multiple people inside the company reportedly feel that he may still return, although retirement is expected at some point this year. No exact timeline has been confirmed.
Bodyslam reported that only a few WWE insiders knew Lesnar would leave his gear in the ring at WrestleMania. Most of the company reportedly expected a formal retirement announcement later this year, possibly at SummerSlam in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This made the WrestleMania moment a surprise for many backstage.
On the Raw episode after WrestleMania, WWE aired a special video package highlighting Lesnar’s career. Paul Heyman also gave an emotional tribute, praising Lesnar and suggesting he should be part of WWE’s “Then. Now. Forever.” opening, calling him one of the most dangerous competitors in WWE history.
Meltzer further reported that Lesnar’s storyline with Oba Femi was originally planned as a multi-match feud. However, creative plans were changed before WrestleMania, and the angle was reduced to a single match, where Femi defeated Lesnar in just four minutes on Night Two.
At present, Brock Lesnar’s WWE future remains uncertain, with conflicting reports on whether his WrestleMania appearance was a final farewell or not.
