A woman on a Brussels Airlines flight from Dakar went into labor while the plane was in the air. Since there was no doctor on board, a flight attendant named Jennifer and two passengers, who were medical experts, helped the woman deliver her baby mid-flight.
The story became famous after Brussels Airlines shared it on LinkedIn. The woman, who was expecting, told the cabin crew she was feeling a lot of pain shortly after takeoff. Jennifer, who is a mother herself, realized that the woman was going into labor, not just feeling cramps.
A nurse who was also on the flight helped by keeping track of the contractions. But soon after, the woman's water broke, and things got serious. The pilots were told, and the plane turned back to Dakar. However, baby Fanta had other plans.
Before the plane could land, baby Fanta was born while the plane was still in the sky. The cabin became quiet as everyone waited for news. Then, they heard a small but strong cry. It was a sign that the baby had arrived safely.
A doctor on board later checked and confirmed that both the mother and baby were healthy. Jennifer said, "As a flight attendant, we train for many situations, even childbirth. But nothing prepares you for it. We stayed calm, worked together, and followed our training. It felt magical. If I wasn't a flight attendant, I think I would have been a midwife."
Jennifer said she will always remember the moment she held baby Fanta in her arms. This flight will always be a special one for everyone involved.
