Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has made a serious accusation against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying they tried to bribe his party candidates ahead of the vote counting for Delhi elections. According to Kejriwal, 16 AAP candidates were offered Rs 15 crore to leave his party and join the BJP. He claims these offers were made just a day before the vote counting, which is scheduled for tomorrow.
In a social media post, Kejriwal explained that his party’s candidates received calls from people claiming that if they joined the BJP, they would be made ministers and would receive Rs 15 crore. "In the last two hours, 16 of our candidates got these calls," said Kejriwal. He also pointed out that some exit polls had predicted a big win for the BJP, which made him wonder why the BJP would try to buy AAP’s candidates if they were already confident of winning. Kejriwal believes the exit polls were only meant to pressure his party’s candidates. However, he confidently stated that none of his candidates would change sides.
One of the AAP candidates, Mukesh Ahlawat, who is contesting from Sultanpur Majra, supported Kejriwal’s claims. Ahlawat shared that he too received a similar offer. He said that someone had called him from a particular number and promised him a position as a minister and Rs 15 crore if he left AAP and joined the BJP. However, Ahlawat made it clear that he would never betray the party that gave him respect and support. He vowed to remain with AAP for life.
Delhi's Chief Minister Atishi also joined the chorus, saying that the exit polls, which predict a loss for AAP, are part of a bigger plan to break the morale of AAP's candidates. She called the exit polls a "conspiracy."
Earlier in the day, AAP leader Sanjay Singh had raised similar concerns, saying that the BJP’s actions showed they had already accepted defeat, even before the results were announced.
In response, the BJP strongly rejected the allegations, calling them the result of AAP’s "frustration" as they faced what they believed was a likely electoral loss. BJP’s Delhi chief, Virendra Sachdeva, demanded that Sanjay Singh either apologize or face legal action for the accusations. Sachdeva also reminded Singh that Kejriwal is already facing a defamation case.
The Delhi election took place on February 5, and the votes will be counted tomorrow. While exit polls predict a win for the BJP, it’s important to note that exit polls often turn out to be inaccurate.
