Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) left the government with no money before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took charge. She spoke about this during a meeting with BJP MLAs at the state party office.
Even though there is a shortage of money, she promised that the BJP government will start all the schemes they had promised, including the ₹2,500 monthly help for women. However, she said the plan will begin only after the government finalizes all details.
Talking about the financial situation, she said that when BJP leaders checked the government’s funds with officials, they found that there was no money left. She blamed the previous AAP government for this problem.
The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, under which ₹2,500 per month will be given to eligible women, is being discussed in several meetings with officials. Gupta assured that even though the state has no funds right now, the BJP government will make sure the scheme is launched.
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi raised doubts about BJP’s promise. She said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee was real, the scheme should have been passed in the first cabinet meeting. Instead, on the very first day, Rekha Gupta admitted that the government had no money, proving that the promise was just a "jumla" (false promise).
In response, Rekha Gupta said AAP had no right to question the BJP. She assured that under PM Modi’s leadership, Delhi will get its due. She also said that once the government releases the CAG report, many financial records from AAP’s rule will be exposed.
Meanwhile, the newly elected MLAs of the 8th Delhi Assembly will take their oaths today. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker will also be elected, and the pro tem speakers will be sworn in later by the Lieutenant Governor.
