Defence Ministry sets up panel to address Tejas fighter jet delays

The Ministry of Defence has made a special team to look into the delay in making and delivering India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk-1A. Reports say that this five-member team was created after the Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief, Air Marshal AP Singh, spoke about the delay in getting these fighter planes. The IAF needs these 83 Tejas jets to replace old aircraft and maintain its strength.

This new team is led by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. Their job is to find out why there is a delay in making Tejas jets and to suggest ways to speed up the process. Officials say the team must give its report within one month.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the company that makes Tejas, recently promised that it will start delivering the jets soon. The company said the delay was due to technical problems, but those issues have now been fixed.

About two weeks ago, HAL’s Chairman and Managing Director, D.K. Sunil, spoke about this delay at an aviation event. He said that the delay was not because of laziness or lack of work. Instead, there were some technical problems that took time to fix. He also said he understood why the Air Force Chief was worried about the delay.

Sunil explained that many meetings were held to solve these problems. HAL has now made all the necessary parts for the planes, and once the engines arrive, the jets will be ready. He said, “We are working hard, and once everything is ready, the planes will start coming out.”

The Defence Ministry’s new team and HAL’s promise come at an important time, as the Indian Air Force urgently needs these fighter jets. The Tejas jets will replace old planes and help the country’s defence system become stronger.
