Chennai teacher suspended for hitting Class 3 student over Hindi poem

A teacher from a well-known school in Chennai was suspended for allegedly hitting a Class 3 student who was unable to recite a Hindi poem. The school management took action after an internal inquiry was conducted on February 21.

According to a school official, the incident came to the attention of the administration on February 16. It was reported that the teacher punished the student for failing to recite a Hindi poem during class. Following an investigation, the teacher was placed under suspension.

The official, who did not wish to be named, stated that the issue was mainly between the teacher and the parents of the affected child. However, the school took strict action in line with its policies against any form of punishment that could harm students.

The child's parents raised the matter with the school authorities, demanding action against the teacher. The school, which follows CBSE guidelines, has a strict policy of zero tolerance towards physical, verbal, or emotional abuse.

As per the school's rules, corporal punishment is strictly prohibited. Following the inquiry, the teacher was suspended to ensure such incidents do not happen again and to uphold the school’s commitment to student safety.
